ITINERARY:
5:30 AM – Hotel Pick-up in Cusco – to Cusipata
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco. From there, we will travel in private transportation for approximately 2 hours to the village of Cusipata, followed by another 1 hour and 30 minutes to Llacto, where the hike to Vinicunca begins.
Hike to Rainbow Mountain
The trail to Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain (5,040 m / 16,535 ft) takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. The first section is relatively easy, although the high altitude may be challenging for some visitors. If needed, horses are available for rent from local families along the route.
As you hike through the beautiful Andean landscape, you’ll have the opportunity to see local farmers, as well as herds of llamas and alpacas grazing against the breathtaking backdrop of the snow-capped Ausangate Mountain.
The final part of the trail includes a steeper climb of about 15 minutes to a scenic viewpoint. Here, you can take a short break, enjoy a warm cup of coca tea, and prepare for the last 15-minute ascent to the famous Rainbow Mountain viewpoint.
Return to Cusco
Once at the top, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain and the majestic Ausangate Mountain (6,372 m / 20,905 ft), one of the highest peaks in Peru. After taking photos and enjoying the scenery, we will hike back to our private transportation and return to Cusco.
