Cusco
The Incas first appeared in Peru in the 12th century and Cusco became the capital of the Inca Empire. Cusco, Kosko or Qosqo is one of the oldest cities in South America and was inhabited by the Killke before the Incas. The Inca city sits at an altitude of 3350 meters surrounded by the Andes. Above the city you will find the impressive archeological sites of Sacsayhuaman, Qenko, Puka Pukara and Tambomachay. The city is filled with Incan and Spanish architecture to be admired and photographed. Cusco was designated a World Heritage UNESCO in 1983 due to its many structures which are well preserved.
