ITINERARY

DAY 1

Welcome to Lima, Capital of Peru

Arrive at the Lima airport where our representative will meet and greet you and a private transfer to your hotel in Miraflores. If arriving in the evening you will spend the night at the airport hotel or if arriving in the morning or afternoon we will take you to Miraflores.

DAY 2

Lima – Luxury Aria Amazon Cruise of Iquitos 5 Days

NOTE: If the Aria Cruise is not available we will offer you an alternative, the Delfin 1 Cruise. These cruises have specific departure dates and availability.

Today after a delicious breakfast, we will take you to the airport for your flight to Iquitos. You will be greeted at the airport in Iquitos by our specialized team and travel by air-conditioned vehicle through the Peruvian countryside to arrive at our Nauta Lounge in time for lunch, or we will serve a box lunch en route depending on the flight arrival time. In the afternoon, we will set off on your first skiff excursion to visit the birthplace of the Amazon.

Then we will board the ARIA AMAZON and settle into your comfortable suite as you begin one of life’s greatest adventures. Following a routine safety drill and introduction to our naturalist guides, we gather for innovative Amazonian cuisine created by our Executive Chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino, whose restaurant, Malabar, is one of Lima’s top-ranked dining experiences.

DAY 3

Ucayali River – Pacaya River

We start the day like Amazon River dwellers, cruising along the Ucayali River on skiffs. Observing the farmers and fishermen go about their daily lives, we search for pink river dolphins in these pristine waters. Later in the day, we return to the skiffs, to ride along the black waters of the Pacaya River at dusk, searching for the mysterious wildlife that comes out after dark and with extraordinary stargazing.

DAY 4

Pacaya River – Ucayali River – Tapiche River

The rewards of our early start today are plentiful, including a breakfast picnic accompanied by a jungle symphony and fishing along the black waters of the Pacaya River. After lunch, we venture out by skiffs on the Ucayali River alongside the banana boats transporting jungle products to the port of Requena, keeping an eye out for pink river dolphins.

DAY 5

Clavero Lake – San Jose De Sarapanga Forest

Today, choose to go jungle walking, canoeing, kayaking, or swimming on the black water Yarapa or Clavero River in the morning. Come afternoon, take a short jungle walk in the San Jose de Sarapanga forest and see the unforgettable giant water lilies.

This evening before dinner, we will gather to introduce you to some of the crewmembers whom you may not have met, working “behind the scenes” to ensure your countless exceptional experiences aboard the ARIA AMAZON. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included

DAY 6

Nauta – Manatee Rescue Center – Cusco – Sacred Valley of the Incas

This morning, we will visit the local fresh market with your guides who can identify the day’s catch by the fishermen of Amazonia and the region’s exotic fruits. Return to the ARIA for breakfast and to pack. Before saying goodbye, we visit the Manatee Rescue Center, a kind of animal orphanage for Amazonian manatees to rescue, rehabilitate and release them back into the wild.

Then visit the San Juan craft market en route to the airport. Depending on your flight time enjoy lunch or a box lunch. Fly to Cusco where our staff will greet you and take you to the Sacred Valley of the Incas where the altitude is lower. Get settled in and enjoy the hotel amenities.

DAY 7

Pisac ruins market – Taray Viewpoint – Ollantaytambo Ruins – Urubamba

After a delicious breakfast, start the historical and cultural tour of the Sacred Valley. Tour the Inca ruins of Pisac and a short hike to the Inti Watana (Sun Temple), baths, altars, water fountains, and ceremonial platform.

Following a drive down to the town of Pisac for a stroll around the colorful handicraft market where you can pick up some souvenirs. Splendid scenery from the viewpoint of Taray for some nice pictures. Enjoy a delicious lunch at the Sarapampa Hacienda from the farm to the table.

After lunch, visit the Inca town of Ollantaytambo for a walk around the ruins facing the town. Stroll along the ancient streets with its Inca design that can still be seen today. Return to your hotel to enjoy its amenities.

DAY 8

Chinchero Traditional Weaving – Huaypo Picnic lunch – Maras Salt Ponds – Moray Circular Terraces

This morning we will travel to the rustic town of Chinchero at a higher elevation than Cusco. Observe an ancient weaving demonstration by the indigenous people with their colorful typical wear. Visit the small adobe colonial chapel built around the 17th century upon the foundations of the Inca Temple.

The inside is covered with lovely floral and religious designs. Following a cultural experience, we will continue to Urubamba to delight in an exquisite lunch. After lunch, we will go to the small colonial town of Maras for a walk around the Plaza.

Then continue driving around the mountain to the magical Salineras, with stunning scenery of the salt ponds staggered down the mountainside in terraces maintained and worked by the families of nearby communities. Our next visit takes us to the Moray circular terraces on a high plateau. No one knows what they were used for as there are different hypotheses.

The most believed theory is that the Incas used this site as an agricultural laboratory to test plants in different temperatures. Moray is quite out of the ordinary and reflects the ingenuity of the Incas. After a mind-blowing time, we will leave you at your hotel to rest.

DAY 9

Journey by Train to Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu Tour

Today a brilliant day begins with a transfer to the Ollantaytambo station to board the Vistadome train with panoramic windows, to Aguas Calientes, gazing at the stunning views of the Peruvian countryside. Upon your arrival at the station, you will be escorted to the luxury hotel of your choice.

Enjoy a lovely Peruvian lunch before going to Machu Picchu. Explore Machu Picchu after the crowds have left with peace of mind. Walk with your guide through Machu Picchu admiring the genius construction designed by the Incas.

Our guide will inform you of the many theories surrounding this wondrous citadel. Following your exploration of Machu Picchu, exit the park and return to your hotel. Savor a fine dinner at your hotel restaurant.

DAY 10

Machu Picchu Huayna Picchu or Montaña Hike – Luxury Hiram Bingham Train – Cusco

This morning another visit to the mystical Machu Picchu, or Hike Huayna Picchu, or Montaña with your guide. Enjoy a lovely lunch and relax in your hotel.

Then it will be time to take the shuttle bus down to Aguas Calientes to board the luxury Hiram Bingham train to the Poroy Station. Glamour and style with breathtaking views, sing along with our traditional musicians and indulge in a twilight dinner with cocktails. Arrive at the Poroy train station where our staff will be waiting to whisk you to your hotel in Cusco.

DAY 11

Ancient Cusco City Visit

Tour the adorable city of Cusco admiring the Inca and Colonial architecture and narrow streets. Walk to the 12 angle stone and take some pictures before walking up to San Blas, the artist district to appreciate the special art unique to Cusco. Visit the Cathedral on the Plaza de Armas observing the beautiful altars and paintings. Stroll to the Qoricancha Sun Temple which was not only the most sacred site in the Inca belief but was considered the very center of the Inca world.

Then we will have a cultural visit to the San Pedro Market where the local people shop. Drive above Cusco to tour Sacsayhuaman with its massive, genius built walls which still remain today. Then off to the Qenko ruins which were possibly used for death rituals. Return to Cusco and have a delicious lunch and leisure time for shopping.

DAY 12

Cusco – Lima – Larco Museum

Say farewell to Cusco with a transfer to the airport for a flight to Lima. Our representative will be waiting at the airport to take you to Miraflores. Unwind and have lunch. Take a nice leisurely drive with our guide to the Larco Museum one of the best museums in Peru. Return to your hotel and relax.

DAY 13

Lima Gourmet – International Flight

The chef will meet you at your hotel in the morning to start the tasty food tour. Enjoy great overviews of Lima, the city of Kings. We will visit Miraflores and Barranco savoring organic coffee, and drinking a fruit smoothie, and fresh fruit at a local market.

Enjoy a hands-on cocktail class of Pisco and make a delectable cebiche with a top chef. A great cultural and food-tasting tour ends with a delicious lunch at the Huaca Pucllana amidst the ruins. Return to your hotel.
Later in the evening transfer to the airport for your international flight.
